overclocking problems.

ok heres the deal... basically i can get my processor to 2.4ghz (default 2) on default voltage. however, if i go above 2.4ghz it wont startup. when i try raising voltage it lasts longer, but not by alot. i have a 580watt psu, but its a piece of crap. im guessing theres a good chance the psu just wont let me do higher voltages.
im not an expert on power supplies or anything but this ones a piece of crap, its a 580watt for $30, and i need to get the fans moving before it will power up the computer....
basically i need confirmation, psu is the problem?
ram is no issue either, i tried running it on a divider setting it lower than ddr400.

It may not be the PSU. heres a short story on my sytem:

I upgraded to the specs in my sig, and with a crappy 400W stock PSU, i could overclock to around 2.22Ghz. Then i upgraded to a 520W 36A psu, and i couldnt o'c any higher, although the video card related blue screens went away.

Now my guess is the motherboard, since with mine if i try to O'C one Mhz past 2.22Ghz, it wont boot. If i lower then memory speeds and timings, still doesnt work. If i raise the voltage still nothing happens. So i figured out with mine that it was because my mobo isnt designed well for overclocking. I'd have to say that ECS isnt that good of an overclocking mobo either, just like chaintech.

lol i have an ECS and i o/ced to 2.4ghz just fine.
also, i lowered the mobo fsb and that should eliminate the motherboard as a problem... or does it? i dont know!
also, i have a high rpm (vantec tornado) on my cpu, should keep temps down just fine!!! (as well as thin silver 5 layer!!)

There is no need to do 1-day bumping.

Nobody can tell you. Could be the motherboard.

Huh? What did you lower exactly? The HTT/LDT or the core?

And what divider are you using?

sorry, i should have clarified.
the htt is at 240mhz, increasing cpu to 2.4ghz from 2.0ghz
the hypertransport multiplier is at 4x instead of 5x ultimately making the fsb 960mhz instead of 1000mhz (like it matters much)
my ddr divider is set to 166mhz, or ddr333... ultimately running it at 200mhz or ddr400 which is its default. its timings are 2-2-2-5 at default as well. its Corsair XMS platinum series.. i think revision 2?
mobo and cpu as in the sig.

i know possibilities are basically my motherboard or my power supply... but what else does it increase besides hypertransport on the motherboard? does it increase the pci and pci-e clocks?

ok im using 240mhz LDT clock
2.4ghz cpu frequency
ddr400 on a ddr333 divider
hypertansport 960mhz on a multiplier of 4
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
whats the problem? i cant raise vcore it causes instability, my temps are just fine... is it my PSU?

Lithium show the guy some respect. He asked for our help and all you can do is laugh. I think that was a complete waste of a post. I think its the psu also.
