i just got an asus 670 (non-TOP edition) and want to OC it. I have never OC anything before and am a little bit nervous about it. anyone have some tips on optimizing power? is there a certain temperature i should not go over? tips in general? Thanks. :)

why?a 670 should max any game out right now at 1080p, as long as you aren't using a 1440p monitor or 2 or 3 monitors then what's the point?

Use MSI Afterburner or EVGA precisionX. I personally like afterburner better, as it is easier to use, and overall is just better laid out.

As for temps, I am not sure on the new die shrink, but Generally you want to stay below 90* or so on a Fermi card, so assume that holds true.

It is a shot in the dark if you have voltage control or not. Most 680s do not, and 670s it is completely manufacturers call. Try to unlock it if you can, but like said, its a crapshoot.

My advice as far as overclocking is to grab a good benchmark, like 3d mark 11 or uninegine (however it is spelled), and your OC software (don't hit apply OC at start up until you are happy with your OC). Then move your clock speed up 100MHz at a time till it becomes unstable (driver crashes). Then move down by 50MHz or so until you find the sweet spot you like. If you can unlock voltage, then bump it a little when you are unstable until you get a clock that you are happy with. It will take time to dial in the OC you like.

mmk. so i can use MSI afterburner for an asus card? i went on there website and it asked me to download either N670 PE 2GD5/OC or N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC. Which one should i pick?

Yes, you can use MSI afterburner on any brand card. I used it just fine on my VisionTek HD4870 and EVGA GTX480 and it worked just fine on both.

Either of those should work just fine.
