Overclocking questions

I've searched around alot, read alot, but still not getting concrete answers.. Maybe you guys can help ( every forum I've asked they all say "go read" )... I know the whole deal about overclocking, I've done it before with my old Celeron.. Maybe the info is out there right in front of my face, but I've looked, and cant find what I'm looking for, it's driving me nuts.. I've spent more time with my new comp trying to figure out what to do, rather than actually enjoying it, I'm like that though, I dont let things go very easily..

I built this new comp 2-3 weeks ago.. I didnt spend alot of money on the processor, just really didnt need much.. Figured I'd overclock it, mostly just for fun, I cant leave anything alone.. But I should have looked into my setup more before I peiced it together, live and learn. I got the mobo cheap, and I think it's more tuned for business useage, it's a good board though. Dont get me wrong though, I'm not complaining one bit, this thing hums right along with everything I've thrown at it so far, I'm very happy with it...... Enuff with the BS, here's the deal..

The mobo is a MSI MS- 7142, the rest is in my sig.. I know the multiplier on this CPU is locked.. You can only change the FSB.. Problem is in my Bios doesnt show that it can be changed.. It shows me in the Bios the multiplier, V-Core, FSB and everything else about the state of the CPU, but you cant change any of it.. I updated the Bios, hoping it would change, it didnt.. I put Fuzzy Logic on it ( a MSI sys utility ), but it wont let me change it, doesnt even show the right sys setup on it.. It's almost as if the comp doesnt know what CPU is in it, even though the Bios shows right... I tried playing around with RMclock, but couldnt change anything, maybe I just dont know how to use it, but I'd change things and nota... I can change Ram voltage, frequency, even some stuff I have no clue what it is.. Play with PCI settings, and AGP settings.. You'd think if I could change all that, I could change the FSB for the CPU??

I cant even Shadow my Bios...... I dont know if I'm missing something or what.. Never delt with this on my old comp, I had it for 8 yrs, technolgy has changed a TON since then.. So I'm kinda clueless on what I should do.. Right now I'm a little out of touch with things, but it wont take me long to catch back up..

Has me wondering though, if I unlock the CPU ( T-Bred ), will the mobo let me change some of the settings?? Even though I could only Underclock it, maybe it would give me something to play with? Or should I just think about getting another board?? Their not all that expensive, but would be a while before I do it, simply because I just bought it LOL If I do that I'll be buying another CPU and probably run a different socket.. It's not that I need the speed, but I will sometime.. I had my last comp for 8yrs, overclock for 6yrs till the board went out.. So I'm the type that uses things till they quit, I need to beable to speed things up for future useage.... Can anyone set me straight??

sempron or athlon 64?
ok when it says 200mhz, and u can change it by 1mhz at a time... thats how u get the cpu clock to increase (cpu multiplier = thats frequency times the multiplier)
beware! it also raises other frequencies in your system!
read oc101 in the overclocking section.

Sempron......... I realize the rest, but the whole prob is I cant change the fsb, multiplier, v-core or anything, although the bios shows me what everything is set at... I've looked around to see if the bios needed to be unlocked, but havnt found anything specific to my mobo, though I've tried everything I've found so far to unlock it..

I've also tried overclocking programs, but nothing is specific to my mobo again, so none of them work.. Fuzzy logic, CoreCenter, Speedfan, RMclock, none of them allow me to change anything, CoreCenter the overclocking utility for my mobo says it doesnt support my mobo. Fuzzy Logic is the same way, expect it doesnt show the correct CPU, and only changes the multiplyer, which if it worked I could only underclock. It will also let me change the V-Core, but nothing happens when I change it... So basicly my hands are tied, cant change anything.... But if the Bios shows the current settings for the CPU, why wont it let me change anything? Should I try getting a modded Bios? Or what.. I can change the Chipset frequency, memory, pci, agp, but cant do anything with the CPU at all... So I have no clue what to do, I know how to overclock, but when you cant change anything it makes it impossible to do... There has to be a way though.. My Mobo shows specific support for AMD 64, but not for Sempron, dont know if that has anything to do with it or not, and dont know how to find out..

The Bios on the Mobo doesnt have that many options, something must be locked, or it just flat doesnt have anymore options, such as CPU settings.. But I was looking at Pheonix's website, and I can get a Bios update, but no clue what that will do as far as capability in changing settings.. I have the latest Bios, but I dont know if the Bios update from Pheonix is the same as what I've already got, because Pheonix is the Bios supplier for my mobo.. I'd hate to spend 30 bucks on something I already get for free...... Maybe I'm looking to much into it, but I dont know what to do..

Hey

As far as I know, on my mobo, I have to press CTRL + F1 and the advanced options pop up. However, it is more than possiblet that your motherboard does not have OCing options or any advanced options for that matter.

JAN :D

well, i heard 2800+ 754 AMD Sempron is one of the best overclocking cpus. lol
i got 2900+ sempron socket A though.
I never overclocked any of my components, but why did you buy your self a new computer that was out from long before now.
how much did you pay for it in total?
the ram too, 1.5b Ultra should only cost you $60 can, which can be converted into about $40 US.
$80 US cpu, while you could have got yourself a 64bit one, on socket 939
$45 US video card
$100 US hard drive?
The motherboards are very important for overclocking,

WELL, let me guess, you didn't know anything about computers before you bought this computer

now you have it, you regret it, don't you??
but its a good start, to build your own computer with little buget.
and even trying to overclock it,
i bought sampron 3900+ like 6 month ago, and i regreted, so here i am, bought my new computer for $2400, lol
and now i think i am happy for now.

if you are not sure how to overclock your cpu, just let go for a while,
and you can always come back to it,
or ask someone you know,

ok while your in the bios... try clicking the + or - buttons on the number pad to turn the fsb up and down. that should work, i know my old motherboard wouldnt work with the other +- signs, ONLY the ones on the number pad.
