Overclocking with a stock fan?

You could prolly get it to around 3Ghz or so, as long as your case has decent airflow your temps should stay alright.

Well, I tried and made it to 2.8GHz... I can't manually change the FSB so I'm not sure if I'll be able to go any higher than that... :P

Nevermind that! I got it to 3.0GHz without manually adjusting the FSB... I used the ASUS BIOS OCing utility. :) Got it to 3.0GHz now... and temperatures fluctuate from around 9 degrees celsius to 31 degrees celcius (when playing games.)

OC'ing with a stock HSF will work, but most likely your OC limit will be based on the temps assuming you have a good motherboard

Yeah, my motherboard seems to be pretty good for it and I'm getting decent temps right now (with the side of my case open), but I'm not sure if I want to trust my CPU to temperature monitoring software that I know next to nothing about. :P

Yeah, Overclocking with the Stock HSF is possible, but not advised, especially when increasing voltage, and even more so on Quad Core.

how are your temps again irishwhistle?

i would leave the overclock as it is if its running at a good temp, howeever i dont realy see the point in overclocking when using Linux becasue its not as heavy as Vista and your not going to be running crysis on linux so if you understand what im getting at do you realy need the extra power?

About 9 degrees Celcius to 31 degrees (@3GHz)... I'm thinking I won't need the power. Sometime I may get Vista and a Phenom, but right now I think I'll stick with 2.6GHz. :)

Temps are in the high 30's and you're worried? I've stressed my chip with prime95 up to 80 Celsius before. Voltage kills your chip more than temp does.
