Ok,

I've never overclocked before now im ready to learn the process.

It didnt really mention int he OC 101 thread.

So, im just curious to how's, dont's and do's!

I know the basic's, but i doint know how to do it from bios or get to the
part i need to OC.

First im starting off with the processor than the memory.

Ive tried finding thread on other forums and such for my specifications in using.

I have:

- AMD+2 Phenom 9550 @ 2.2Ghz 4MB cache
- 8GB OCZ platinum series DDR2 PC6400 @ 800MHz
- Asus M3N78 VM mainboard (not the best, but better than my old one lolol)
- ATI HD4870 512MB

...anyways the main componients that you need to know.

What about timings and such, I dont know about these...what do i need to now to keep my machine stable.

I've heard ppl getting the processor i have to 3.2GHz and stable and thay had older and less than what i have.

Anyways, please help me on this venture

:)

i have the same processor right now, it's ok but i don't think u can overclock it over 2.5ghz :S sad but true, that's why i'm going intel dual core or quad yet so

It really depends on the chip. but the two I had 2.6 to 2.7 is about all she wrote. I,m sure alittle more if you tweaked the hell out of them and had good cooling. But you can get a 9850BE for like 35 bucks more.

yeah i bough it stock in a HP comp...the only original componient is the processor now.

But I just want to know how to overclock!

Where in the bios? how to up the voltages for the equivlient CPU OC....Just things like that would be awesome to know

:D

On the safe side. Just lower your HT by one. Bump your memory down to 677. Then just start raising you Bus up a few Mhz. at a time. When it get unstable back a few Mhz. off. If you want to go further you will have to start bumping up your CPU Voltage up in small amounts. But if you start raising your voltage, keep a eye on your CPU temps.

hmm m i just went into my bios and it seems my CPU part where the info on my processor is under advance in greyed out! Thats not good is it? Or do i go somewhere else in bios? or do unlock it or something?

Have you got a setup like this, if so change the top setting to Manual.

this is what I have...dosnt look like yours at all lol. I was told when I bought My mobo that i could custom my OC'ing, it seems theres only limited pre-sets...

But have a look and maybe I'm wrong....

ok,

after bios update through asus...

this is what my bios now looks like...not quite like yours but close...

does this look ready to OC now?

I just dont know which is the BUS or PCU Voltage....and ram dosnt have 677mhz, 800mhz.1066 mhz etc.. they seem to be even numbers. i might be wrong

host your images on photobucket or imageshack or whatever website you want, and then cut + past the
code into CF.

run your hypertransport at a lower speed as well as your memory. that should allow for more headroom to overclock. you may also want to try raising your memory timings to 5-5-5-15 and voltage by one or two steppings.
