overdrive just hangs...

hello everyone!
i just got this dfi board like a month ago (its in my signature)
they boast this boards overclocking capabilities but in all honesty
its for a more advanced overclocker... (which is not me) hahaha
before i was just used to clicking "auto tune"
though i have learned quite a bit thanx to google n some threads
i cant seem to find out why overdrive still freezes up when i click on "auto tune"... i am familiar with the general ideas or steps to overclock but it is very time consuming and stressful...maybe im just lazy
but please dont hold that against me! hahaha
would anyone be able to help me fix the aod hang up?
also should i trust aod? or just manually do it all?
could the temps be y it just freezes up? cpu is at 40C but chipsets at like 60C
which im sure is really high
or would it have to do with voltages?
i know theres a correlation to voltages and temps but wouldnt lowering volts be like the opposite of overclocking it...
or would reinstalling it help?
i changed the cpu stepping from p0 to p1 (which i have yet to find a clear answer as to what the differences are)
and some said that changing the ram from unganged to ganged would help get a higher oc but at this point it wont even start...after hitting ok on the warning message it just freezes!
the board has TONS of options in the bios...
possibly too many for a noob such as myself

You got a 9950BE its unlocked, plus you have a DFI motherboard, one of the best bios overclocking boards. Screw AOD program. Uninstall it or just set it back to defaults and close it.

Use your bios to overclock. The 9950 doesnt overclock that well, so dont look for anything over 3.0/3.2ghz.

You just have to worry about 2 settings, the X (multiplier) and the CPU voltage.

In the bios just start raising the X till the system gets unstable, then back it off some. If thats not high enough ghz for you, you will have to start bumping up your CPU voltage, small amounts at a time.

When you raise the CPU voltage, start keeping a eye on your temps. If the 40c above is at idle, its kinda high, but not enough to make it restart. What is the temp. under load?

I see you have the Zalman 9500, that one is kinda small for the 9950, the 9950 puts out heat. The Zalman 9700 would have been a better choice if your overclocking.
 
yeah looks like ima have to do the multi + voltages...
im just lazy is all hahaha thanx tho!
oh but if you were wondering...
my cpu temps under full load and crysis for about an hour are 41C n idle is 37C
i have 7 120mm fans 2 of em are blowin around 70cfm hahaha
