Overheated or dead?

I finally got my laptop back and running this weekend. turns out nothing was really wrong with my computer other than my heatsink wasnt attached well and was making it overheat and cause noise... and after all that waiting my dad was able to re-attach the heatsink and have it up and running in less than 15 mins. :o

I did however find out that the guy who was "fixing" my laptop left 8 screws out of my laptop and messed with my desktop settings. he uninstalled several of my programs like limewire and my 05 norton anti virus...and loaded some cheap internet virus checker onto my computer. I'm hoping thats all he messed with. Needless to say we are reporting him to the Better Buisness :D

Always glad to hear some good news! :) Now's the time to grab a few free stuff to keep it running that way. Three cleaners here in mind are AVG 7.1, AdAware SE Personal, and Ewido. I still haven't made a decision on the Windows Defender beta2 as of yet. Stuff still keeps sneaking by that one. :( was the sight when Ewido caught some trojans missed by WD, AVG, and AdAware alike. But I'll give you those links anyway.
For the free version of AVG, http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
For AdAware SE Personal, http://www.lavasoft.com
For Ewido's free version also at Grisoft along with AVG, http://free.grisoft.com/doc/ewido-anti-spyware-free/lng/us/tpl/v5
And for the undecided Windows Defender, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&displaylang=en

awesome! thanks imma have to try those.

I have adaware on my PC...it says it deletes things but as soon as I restart they always come back. have they updated the program any?

When you go to start a scan a prompt will come up right away if you haven't used it for a few days. That's when you click the connect button to see a swift update go on right away. Your connection speed will determine how fast the small patch is downloaded and installed. The scroll bar shows the process. If you visit regular sites with adbots you will see things return often. But there is where having more then one can help out since AdAware is limited like any other type of remover. AVG recently flagged a trojan as it was being put on the drive upon reaching one suspect site while on a search. But Ewido found a few others missed by both AVG and AdAware. That was to see another surprise when the Webroot Spy Sweeper trial was downloaded lately finding a few more including one that hands out remote access to your system. For other types of "parasites" you may have to find a special remover for a specific pest! But being familliar with a good variety of tools can be the biggest help.
