Overheating after cleaning fan and heatsink

Hey,
I own an Asus K50IE, 1 year old, and lately i've been having the same problem with overheating
While having nothing much opened, i even checked with task manager...nothing more than normal...CPU at 4-5% with spikes at 30% rarely, I have temps around 58°C even going at 70 shown by speedfan. And i have an external cooler.

It started, as far as i remember, with noticing Avira hogging up the CPU, then even after uninstalling it and still having high temps i reinstalled windows and all that....still same problem....opened up my laptop, it wasn't much dust inside but still i cleaned it...heat sink too, no problem with the thermal pads...they're still there intact...ran a virus check ....nothing turns up

At this moment i have my cooler on, only firefox opened, task manager shows 4% use and having a temp of 58 and really warm to the toutch...my fan is working, i feel the heat coming out the back.

Not to mention that it heats up fast as in 20 min from starting it reaches this temp, yesterday, for example, it reached 74.
I have no problems while watching movies, There was only one time it froze and i had to shut it down from its button since it wasn't responding to anything (eg. Alt+F4).
I have however a really stressing problem that i think is related ... it freezes while transferring big files, like movies, either from one folder to another, or from laptop to USB or burning disks, it does this everytime,it makes it impossible to copy anything and i have to shut it down as above.

Thanks for reading, and in advance from help.
P.S. Hope i posted it where i should have :)

So you opened the laptop and cleaned the CPU Fan and heatsink? Did you remove the fan and heatsink from the CPU? Did you clean the CPU correctly and reapply thermal paste?

You gave some details about what is happening, but you skimped on the details of cleaning out the laptop.

For instance, wasn't much dust inside but still i cleaned it...heat sink too. There are multiple heatsinks in a laptop, but I assume you meant for the CPU heatsink? And, what did you mean by "heat sink too"? Did you take it off the CPU and wipe the thermal paste off? Or, did you just dust the heat sink? If you did wipe off the thermal paste, did you re-apply the thermal paste to the CPU?

I am also thinking he did not reapply the thermal paste. When you pull a heatsink off the processor you need to reapply the thermal paste. Read thru this section of the forums you are in now and find a thread that talks about the correct way to clean the heatsink and apply new thermal paste.

Sorry for not giving enough details.
It only had a little bit of dust(i said not much because i've seen others and mine wasn't even coming close) it wasn't clogged or anything , i took the fan out cleaned it with compressed air and q-tips i'm sure i put it on right, as for the thermal paste, in mine I don't have thermal paste only thermal pads and they were intact. I didn't tear them or anything...
I had another laptop and did regular cleaning, and applied thermal paste...so i know about that and how to apply it, this one doesn't.

It is really hard to troubleshoot computers over the internet. I'm sure if I was there, I would figure out what was wrong.

However, the main disadvantage of thermal pads is that they are not good at keeping the CPU cool. If you can take the pad off and apply paste to the CPU, then you will notice a difference in temperature.

Also, how are you using the laptop? Is the system fan well ventilated? Are you using this computer on a blanket over your lap? Are you using the laptop on Wood / Plastic? Are you using one of them laptop coolers (I wouldn't use one, it will just raise the temperature even more, unless there has been an improvement in that department) that sits under the laptop?
