Overheating GPU

I have a problem with my new GPU: AMD Radeon Shappire HD 6850. When I stay on the internet, the gpu temperature is about 70C, and when I disconnect my pc, the GPU temperature is about 47C. I can't explain this becouse when I play games as Deus Ex it remains in a low temperature, but every time that I try to conncet to the internet (wi-fi or lan) , the temperature rieses to 70C. What can I do?

I tried with Speedfan, MSI afterburner and GPU-Z, but it's always the same.

you mean that the temps are the same when you use speedfan to set them higher?
It's not a program to reduce your temps automaticly, you need to change the speed yourself.

might be something really silly like a driver issue or something

just throwing that out there but i honestly wouldnt know

I tried to uninstall and reinstall my drivers, but the temperatures are always 70°-68°.
Today I set my fan to 100% and now it's about 59°, but the GPU usage is about 97% when I am connected and 0% when I am offline.

Is this a custom built pc or store bought? What make and model of power supply do you have?

Not a very good unit. 28 amps on the 12 volt rail for a 700 watt psu. Your system may be underpowered causing the higher temps. Who built the computer? Was the brass standoffs used between the case and motherboard?

Have you tried a different browser? I can't see how that would cause it though.

When you say connected to the internet and offline I assume you mean just by opening and closing the browser and not by disconnecting your modem/router.

I built the computer but the shop told me that they were compatible. I don't think that the standoffs are made by brass, but I'm not sure.

It's not a browser problem, because the gpu usage rises to 97% also if I don't open the browser.

A good 700 watt power supply should have around 50 amps on the 12 volt rail. If the power supply can't output enough amps to power everything weird things will start to happen. The standoffs are usually brass in color.

I don't think I use more than 300W-350W, anyway, now I can't control the standoffs, in my country now is late, I will control tomorrow.

Hmmm, I'm kinda thinking you may have a grounding issue.
I have never seen it before but a bad ground somewhere may be causing a ground loop that is causing your gpu to go nuts.

As John said, look to see if the stand offs are brass and not plastic first.
