Overheating Laptop

I have seen other threads about laptops overheating, I know the way air fluctuates in some of these things is just crappy.

My computer usually tends to overheat when doing tasks such as using PowerDirector to edit videos, or playing games in Java.

It continues to do this even if I elevate it, the only time it doesn't is when I aim a fan at it. I get a new laptop next year, but I don't want to keep messing with this, does anyone have any ideas of what I could do?

I plan to spray out the heatsink to get out any potential dust, but other than that i'm out of ideas.

You might be able to pull out some dust by putting a vacuum to the fan (most found on the side or the back of the laptop). Do this while the laptop is turned off though.
Also, You can get some external cooling for it like this:

This elevates it a blows some air on it, which might give a little drop in temperatures.

thanks for the link, i will try the vacuum also, i have a cooling fan, just a cheap one off of ebay, that seemed to help at first, but then the fans didn't seem to be strong enough after the problem got worse.
