overheating problem

i have a nvidia 7600gs which ever since i got it has been having an overheating problem. i then reaplied the termos paste and it work perfecty for a couple of months and then started overheating again but this time the fan was making a lot of noise so i lubricated it and it has been fine again for another couple of months but now its started again. just running windows while surfing the web its at a perfectly acceptable 47degrees c. but then if i run a game the temp rises and then the game i am running crashes the screen goes mad all blurry then settles down but then the computer is locked solid. i am completally baffled now is the graphics card ready for the bin becasue thats where its going to end up soon im fed up with :mad: it.does anyone have a idea what the heck is wrong with it???

How is the air circulation in your case? If you have no air movement, when the card is idle it's fine. When the card gets hotter and hotter as it performs while it's sitting in air that's getting hotter and hotter, well . . . it get's pretty hot. And that little fan on the card is just cooling down the chip. But if it's just blowing hot air on the card, it's not doing much. I would look at a couple case fans and slot fans.
 
i see what you mean my case is extremally small and theres a lot cramed in there but why would the card work perfectly for a while and now decide that its to hot i just dont understand it :confused:
 
What do you mean by perfectly for a while. Do you mean for the couple months where it didn't have problems? Or the couple minutes when you weren't gaming on it?
 
Oh then I don't know. It could just be heat damage. You could always consider a new card. The 7600 is an old card, and with the release of all the new cards, you could get an average card for a good price now. Just make sure to invest in some case fans! Haha, or some cable ties to kinda clean up the inside.
