what causes a comp to overheat? I have a laptop and it worked fine for a few months but now it goes really really slow. Its not a virus/spyware because ive scanned many times before and even formated. However, i can feel the comp heat up very quickly. Not sure the exact temp of it (dont know how to get it)

1) restart the comp
2) hit delete a few times, or w/e key it tells you to hit in order to go into bios
3) look around for temperature reading

There are many things that can cause a laptop to overheat, such as failing fan, dust clogging the fans, bad thermal pad on heatsink

do dell laptops tend to overheat more often than others?
Not that i know of, it should be about the same for any kind of laptop. You can download SpeedFan, that might give you a cpu temp.
