I just had a phone call about 30 mins ago this guy who is indian was on the other end of the phone says.

"Yes hello i am calling from the head virus department we have found your computer to be infected" so i was thinking to myself (knowing this is definantly a scam) how can i catch this guy out at his own game to which i said

"Oh ok what is the computer name of the computer that is infected i have many computers here" to which the guy/scammer goes "oh no sir i am calling about the computer that is infected sir"

"Yes what is the username" this process repeated about 5 times until the scammer finally hung up lol.

I can see how this process could work to the unsuspecting person to get your CC details. The scammer rings you asks you to go to some site like teamviewer gets you to give them control and then they have full control of your computer to do whatever they want.

This is just a warning that they are ringing as many people as they can while they have the chance. I have never had a phone scam anything like this before.

I have heard of this scam over in the UK too, the cheek of it is amazing.

I had one of these call one of my customers one day, she gave them my number and said I had the computer. Kept the guy on the phone for about 45 mins, giving him the answers he didnt want. i.e. "in Event Viewer you see all those red crosses", "no" says I :) I thought the longer he is on the phone to me the less he can hassle others.

Reported to trading standards and got a lovely letter back telling me how to secure my computers (not good advice either, really).

Trading Standards arent interested as there is little they can do, as the "company" is not in the UK.

Haha Nice.
I would have also done something similar.(I mean what you did not what the indian guy did) :D

Yeah I've heard of a customer or two at work that got one of these calls.

On a funny note, my friend installed PrankDial on his phone and used the Indian Customer Service call on me. I thought it was that scam :D

I have had 3 of those calls, I like to play with them, and keep the perp on the phone as long as I can.

Figure if I can tie them up for five or so minutes that is a few less people they can call.

Im guessing but have had email about certain numbers like 308 or 304 you get charged for the call. Keeping you online was what it was about. Quite a while ago. I just hit keys 10 times and hang up. On the otherhand im confused. there was something called donotcall.gov i think. to get your name off the call list. has not worked yet. I get my share about credit cards, windows etc.
i do not remember the number mind ya. maybe someone will know the rumor.

That's scary that you could get charged for the call without your knowledge. Typically, when you are going to be charged, you have to give your consent ahead of time.
