P2 is on part with a Q9450 and can overclock just about as well to 4.0ghz on air.
I7 sadly destroys the P2 BUT least AMD is on the correct road now.

i7 better p2 cheaper!!!
the i7 will still be faster due to hyperthreading and triple channel memory however the p2 overclocks very well from what i hear and is easy to oc due to it being unlocked and from what iv seen it competes very with a stock i7 920 when oc'ed a bit. The thing you have got to remember is that even with am3 board and ddr3 the p2 rig will still be cheaper with very little performance difference and with am2 a lot cheaper!!!! im now planning on getting the p2 my self!!! I7 better performance p2 better value!!!

no the P2 is on the AM2+ platform, which still uses DDR2-1066. The AM3 Phenom II's will be out later in the year, utilizing DDR3 and trichannel.

I know from experience though, the p2 is very easy to OC
The way I understand it, they were released monday. As far as of right now the AM3 does not have Trichannel. Its a Dual DDR2/3 dual channel memory controller that can be run in ganged and unganged model just like the rest of the Phenems. Zipzoomfly already list some, but out of stock as yet. Newegg will probably have them prety soon.

no as far as i know am3 allows DDR3 memory in dual channel setup(access 2 memory units at one i7 allows triple channel 3 units at ones!!)!
