I have just built my own computer and when i turned it on for the first few times it seemed to be working ok and now i have noticed that the CPU fan on the heat sink starts up when i first turn the pc on and then it pauses.I havent given the pc a chance to see if the fan starts back up as worried it may damage some components.

And help appreciated

Thanks

Its just the basic heat sink and fan that came with it. Intel Pentium 4 3.2 LGA775.
Standard fan etc.

Thanks

Tom

it is probably a power issue, can you list all the components in your system and your PSU rating?

No i havent altered the BIOS apart from telling it to boot from cd to install windows OS.

I did connect some small case lights to the powersupply and i decided to remove these to see if this would make any diference. (this didnt)
I have the following setup:

Gigabyte S775 I915g ATX Sound GiG LAN USB 2.0 FSB800 SATA Retail Box Motherboard

Intel Pentium® 4 540 3.2GHZ S775 HT 1M Cache 800FSB Processor with HT Technology Retail Boxed With 3 Year Warranty

Kingston 1GB DDR PC3200 400MHz Non-ECC CL3 (3-3-3) 184pin DIMM's (Kit of 2 x 512mb)

XFX GF 6600 PCI-E 256mb - DDR DVI/TV

Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 160GB Serial ATA150 7200rpm 8mb Cache - OEM

Mitsumi OEM Black Internal Floppy Drive 1.44mb 3.5 Inch

And i have a Ebuyer 500w Power Supply Silver With Dual Fans , as you see which is 500w which should surely be enough. The lights i did have installed are 2" UV Dual Cold Cathode Kit also from ebuyer.

Thanks

Tom
