P4 overclock

Are pentium 4's easy to overclock? and would it even be worth it with only 512mb RAM and a geforce fx 5200 graphics card? would the overclock processor just bottleneck the system?

Ya, p4's overclock pretty good.

No, it wouldnt bottleneck the system, idk how that would happen cause your upping the speed of the processor.

wel i mean i know for ram and graphics card you can only use so much of the power equivalent to the other. is this not the same with the processor? and if i did overclock the processor, would taking off the side panel and putting a fan blowing directly into the computer be enough to take care of the heat issue?

thanks

You'd be better off buying an aftermarket cooler, Zalman makes some ok coolers

Problem is your entire system sounds pretty old, you'd be much better off trying to build a new system if possible

wel.... thats not possible >< i dont have near enough money. would overclocking the processor have any major effects on the system?

Can your bios OC? If so you should be able to push it up about .3ghz without any major issues.
So my 3.0ghz runs at 3.29ghz for daily use, zero issues. Big boost for free is you ask me.

Edit: If you have 512mb of Ram you would prolly see a larger increase in perfromance by upgrading to 1-2gigs

Is there a tutorial on how to overclock my processor through BIOS? and i think i might go buy some soon. how do i know what type of ram to look for? does that depend on the motherboard?

I just downloaded Clockgen, CPU-Z, and SpeedFan to check everything after i overclock. So my question is when i change the settings in Clockgen and apply them is that actually overclocking? i went tiny steps at a time and changed it to 3.3GHz and applied the settings. When i go into CPU-Z it shows that the processor is running at 3.3GHz so i would figure that does mean that its overclocked. But on the same note, when i restart my computer it all goes back to normal, so i feel like its just showin me numbers and not even overclocking. It stil goes back to normal even after clicking the box that says apply current settings at startup.

So basically in a nutshell. when i overclock with clockgen is it actually overclocking the processor or just showing me what i want to see and not doing anything technically?

edit: ok now the settings applied for when i restart my computer. it started up just fine and the temps are running A-ok! im running the processor at 3.3 but it feels like this was too easy. is this actually overclocking?

thanks
