p4 overclocking dell :(

i want to overclock my brothers p4 3.0ghz, dell. so the problem is that i cant go into the bios and change the fsb.

ive heard that there are programs that change the fsb like while running windows.

is this true? if so can u show me some of them.
 
usually those programs come with the motherboard and will only work with that motherboard, so my guess is you can't do it

i think there might be but i cant remember the names. but i heard that when you overclock it and then restart the computer it goes back to default settings. and why do you want to overclock a pentium 4 3 ghz. what is he doing that he needs more processing power.

gaming, his x800xl is fine but he wants to see if he can improve 3dmark06 scores and maybe get some higher settings in bf2.

wat culd i search in google where i culd find the program?

"3rd party overclocking program dell", something like that.

there are 3rd party apps, ClockGen is one of them. The problem is finding support for your motherboard with the windows based apps.

yea dont u have to match up like the ICS number to see if it is supported. i did that and i culdnt find the number on my mobo, does that mean i cant overclock at all.


edit: i tried downloading one of those and i clicked on it and it said the numbers dont match. i went onto his board and found the ICS chip and got the number, it didnt have an exact match but i tried downloading the one that was the closest. and i unzipped it and clicked on it and it worked, i got the values. and it lets me change the FSB. so now once i restart, will it go back to normal?

I have no clue, i dont think too far since Dell and other OEM manufacturers use cheaper components, and the cooling probably isnt too good. But i havent had that much luck with Windows OC'in, i can get it a few hundred Mhz higher, but then its crashes, which is why i prefer BIOS oc'in.

yea bios is definitly easier, but thats not an option for me. but when i move the fsb bar it increases the speeds on everything: cpu,fsb,memory,pci-e, and pci. is that wat i want?


ok nvm overclocking is out of the question. i moved the bar like a quarter of an inch, not even. then hit set values and the screen went black and it made a loud beep. piece of shit dell.
