i have P4 2.8 ghz and on boot the temp starts at 50 degrees, and increases upto 65 degrees when playing games, is this normal? i want to know the temp if anyone who have same processor i have. and BTW is the thermal paste suppose to stay wet on the heat sink for many years? cuz mines still wet.

this things get so hot that when you forgot to place the heat sink onthe processor on boot it exceeds the maximum boards temp and shutsoff.

apply artic silver 5 and invest in a cpu cooler like the zalman 9700

i had a zalman 9500 with as5 on a 3ghz prescott and it never go pass 60c on load. it can go as high as 70c when i had the stock cooler.

intel chips cannot burn themselves out like amd chips. they downclock or shut down and will not destroy themselves :)

That would happen on virtually any processor, not just the P4's. If you turn off the fan on the Core 2 Duo's, they exceed 70C.

I have a 3.0 ghz prescHOT core and at idle it is in the mid 30C and has never hit 50C. I'm using stock cooler.

Persoanlly, I wouldnb't want mine running that hot. I'd look into a aftermarket cooler or at least make sure your stock cooler is working properly. My sure the heatsink/fan isn't clogged with dust. I clean mine out every season change.
