Well,.. I bought this motherboard today, together with an Q6600. and gues what? it doesnt work :( now, i already send a mail to the shop where I bought it, but it just doesnt give me any rest atm..

So my question is, does anyone of you know if this CPU actually can work with this motherboard? any info would be welcome.

yes it does, i built a computer with that CPU and that ASUS board a couple weeks ago. HOWEVER, i had an interesting problem as well. i had to put ONLY one stick of RAM in, boot to BIOS, then manually set the RAM timings to the manufacturer's specs. if i didnt do this, the computer would not even turn on. it would only work with one stick of RAM until i set the timings manually. you may want to give it a try.

=o interesting idea. did you also had the problem that only the Fan's started spinning, and nothing else?

ASUS boards are quite picky with the RAM, so you might want to check whether your set of RAM is in the list of compatible RAM. I think this list should be in the ASUS website.

*EDIT* I was looking around in ASUS website, it says that the memory list should be in the user manual.

It looks like Cleric7x9 uses the same RAM as the one I bought. (5-5-5-18 timing, pc6400 800MHz Corsair XMS2, alumminium coloured heatspreaders) so it shouldnt be an issue,.. i think. but, good tip, looking it up atm :)

Cleric, you're sure it was the P5N32-SLI Premium, and not the E or so that you build that pc with? (Its not that i dont believe you, but I almost mixed them up myself :o )

also, taking out 1 DIMM of RAM didnt help, still only the fans started spinning when I hitted the power button, but nothing appeared on the screen. :(

This computer in my sig is my computer, this was a computer i built for a friend. he did use the same RAM as i did, but he definitely had the p5n32. any luck with getting to the BIOS with only one stick of RAM?

nope... but I found out that my dad's HP has a 3.0GHz P4 on s775, so I scooped that one, and it gets to the post screen and I was able to go into the BIOS. now I'm messing around finding good floppy disks to flash the bios. (cant get the USB drive booting to work it seems)

well, when I insert a floppy, it says "invalid system disk, remove and press any key to continue" while its a disk i formatted as DOS boot disk in another pc. and when I just put the AWDFLASH.EXE and the 0901.BIN (the bios, v901) m it says in Dutch, remove disk and pres any key to continue.

You can't just dump awdflash on a floppy. Use an MSDOS boot disk. This will make a minimal DOS boot disk that you can use, you should be able to fit the flashing utility on it too.

I'm so stupid... i just needed to put the Bios file onto a floppy or USB stick.. go into the BIOS and select the EZ Flash option. (after thet i had to burn the BIOS + AWDFLASH.EXE onto a cd and put it into the pc. well, its flashed (and the CD part could be done with the Q6600 in the motherboard already :) )
