If you just want the front of the CD drive painted, that is pretty simple. I won't go into too many painting details as those have been covered numerous times on just about every pc modding site.

First open up the disk drive, as in slide the tray out. If not powered use a paper clip or similar to manually eject the tray. If you look at it from the bottom you can see where the front cover is being held in. From that direction most just need to be pushed up and forward and it should pop off.

Then look at the bottom and sides of the CD rom drive itself. There should be a few little tabs poking through the metal casing on each side. Push those in, and the rest of the drive face should pop off.

Give em a good cleaning, then light sanding if you choose, and hit them with your choice of paint. Lightly sand between coats, and them hit them with a clearcoat to give them a bit more protection.

Put them back on in reverse when all is said and done, and you should be good to go.

Painting and labeling are completely different things?

The fusion paints from krylon work well. They adhere very well to plastics. That's what I used to paint mine.

Krylon Fusion works great on plastic products and looks almost professional if done right! Highly recommended.

On my old computer I just spray painted the entire thing, I just covered up the LED light.

Cool, Im planning on painting mine black silver and blue =]

I used to use Krylon Fusion on Xbox 360 cases I modded.. I never received a complaint from a customer, but it doesn't fuse with the plastic like a real dye does.

I highly recommend that you find a nice vinyl dye in the color(s) you want.. yes, I said, and meant, vinyl dye, it bonds well with plastic, in moderation. You can try Michaels, or most other Arts & Crafts stores.. just make sure you wear gloves and don't get it on your skin :D

Failing that, just get some Krylon Fusion, and make sure you paint in an open, ventilated area that's nice and warm (follow the instructions on the can, or you will end up with the 'orange peel' effect.

the cover on internal optical drives can be taken off. Just use a small brush, dont put too much paint on it and take your time.
