Painting Case

Hey guys. Tomorrow, I'm planning on spray painting the inside of my case flat black. All I bought was a can of flat black spray paint. Is that all I need or do I need to add something extra?

You will need some other things. You need to get sandpaper and primer at a minimum. Once you get the entire case stripped down, you'll need to at least give it a light sanding to rough up the factory paint. Then you need to clean the case. There is special cleaning solvents but when I did mine...I just set it in the shower and sprayed it with hot water and wiped it with a cloth. Then let it dry for several hours and make sure it is completely dry. Then you'll need a couple coats of primer and then a couple coats of paint. When I did mine I used almost 2 cans of primer and 2 cans of black.

Before you paint...set the cans of primer and paint in a bucket of hot water. That will heat the paint inside and it sprays so much better. It almost blasts out of the can;) This is the paint job I gave my Coolermaster 690.

I know that I have to get primer (I forgot to post that into my post).:D The thing is that I don't want to paint the outside of my case because thats fine. All I want to do is the inside. Is that possible or do I really need to do the whole thing. Cuz I might as well just put masking tape over the black so that I don't spray on that but i don't know really if I need to do the outside too.

All I did with mine was wash it down to get all the crap out, do a bit of sanding, and give it around 6 coats of matt black metal paint (spray, obviously).

So good so far :)

Black > Silver FTW! :D

When you get primer, you will want a self-etching primer such as rustoleum or krylon self etching primer. For paint, did you get krylon/rustoleum/name brand or just a store brand? Rustoleum and krylon are the best spraypaints for cases imo.

I wish I could find the tutorial I followed to get a mirror black spray painted case, but it alludes me. Anyway, even if you're going for flat black, you'll need tons of sand paper!

Clicky1 Clicky2

Quick tips;
1.Use extremely light coats and let them dry fully inbetween.
2.Sand every layer with 2000 grit, except final coat(s)/clear.
3.Wet sand!
4.Primer is your friend.
5.Hang your case from a wire so you can get every single angle without touching it.
6.Newspaper + masking tape to cover up the parts you dont want painted.

:).

Ok I think I got it now. I will probably start tomorrow because I have work right now and later I need to go to Home Depot to get more supplies so I'll start tomorrow.:D

One more question. I saw this neat mod of the OCZ XTC Ram cooler that was painted black. How would I attempt to paint that. It's chrome so I don't know...is there a special strategy?

It's the black Ram Cooler.
