Parellels

Hello everyone,

I own a Mac but need to install Windows.

I am not a particularly affluent man, so was wondering if it were possible to use an OEM version of Windows XP with Parellels to save myself a hundred pounds.

Has anyone tried this? Is it likely to crash thus requiring me to repurchase?

Thx in advance for any help.

you should be able to use it. even if it does crash you can still reinstall it. the license if for one computer at a time. you can remove it from one computer and install it on a different computer if you want. as long as it is only on one computer at the time

I'm a little worried that it'll crash after I've entered the key, thereby meaning it will refuse my key when I try to reinstall.

Is that feasible or am I talking rubbish?

Is OEM known for crashing on Parallels? If it did crash, I assume I can just uninstall what I have installed and no harm will come to my Mac.

Whilst trying to save £100 by purchasing OEM, I'm also keen not to waster £50 by having it all go belly up.

Many thanks for your response, much appreciated, I am somewhat of a novice when it comes to computers.

no. oem is the same as normal but without the guide. it will install the same. it should not crash and if it does. you can use the key again. it does not wright something to the disk saying it is used up

I installed paralells the other day on my Macbook without any issues. It wasnt an OEM copy though, so not sure if it has troubles with those.

And if it crashes it has no effect on OS X. (If windows crashes that is, if paralells crashes for some reason or freaks out you might have to turn off and restart but thats a different story, and one i haven't had happen yet.).

If Windows crashes, its all sandboxed inside paralells so you just restart windows again. No biggie!!! I had to do it a couple of times while i was screwing around with the settings and such. No problem.

Runs great. Currently playing diablo lol on parallels in windows.

Ohhh and one nice thing you can do if the program you need doesnt need internet access is to essentially sandbox windows by not allowing it to have an internet connection. No viruses or spyware or anything. And if you want internet just click over into os x and go browsing along!!!

Best of both worlds... - gaming hehe
