partition and win7 ?'s

is it possible to partition a HDD that already has data on it?

for example, i have a 1TB with 600gigs on it and want to make a partition to install win7 ULTIMATE 64bit on. is that possible and what prog would u recommend?

and there's no way to take over my already installed programs in VISTA 64bit ULTIMATE to the win7 ULTIMATE 64 install is there?

i smell a complete re-install of everything but ah well :(

thanks in advance!

Absolutely.

I use my copy of Ubuntu live boot cd.

I boot Ubuntu from the disc and run GParted. It will let you shrink the current volume to create unallocated space, which can in turn be used to create a partition.

I don't understand your second question. If you're asking if you can "copy" programs from one OS to another, the answer is maybe.

Some applications will run straight from their respective "Program Files" folder
without actually installing the program.

Once you get your hard drive partitioned, and your second OS installed, just navigate to the other drive where the programs are installed, and find the .exe's and double click them.
