partition issues

OK, i decided to make a new partition on my HDD so I could install Ubuntu but still have Vista. I followed all instructions and after it "queries the volume for available shrink space" it comes up with a normal screen displaying free space on HDD (I currently have 38.5GB free), and by how much I want to shrink volume. Normal, except that it shows it as having 0 MB of space to shrink. At the bottom of this page it says: " Size of available shrink space may be restricted if snapshots or pagefiles are enabled on the volume" What does that even mean/how can i fix it?

Use GParted instead of the disk management thingy, search it on google, download the .iso and burn it to a disc, then boot from it . From then on it is pretty self explanitary
