Partitioning external Hard Drive with data on it.

I have an Acom Data 250 GB (232 GiB) external USB2/Firewire (works with either) drive (purchased preassembled). I want to repartition it without losing any of the data currently on it (103 GiB Used/129 GiB Free). Windows XP Pro (SP1) sees the drive as having one partition of FAT (32bit). Partition Magic (8.0, purchased 2 or 3 weeks before Symantec bought PowerQuest) sees the drive as having a 'BAD' partition with First sector 0, last sector 488392064 (lists it as 238,472.7 MB) and cannot resize it. Is there any way to repartition it with my data intact?

*IS* the drive okay or is there actually an error? You should be able to adjust the partitions even with drives that have problems....
