i am going to be getting a 74gig raptor and a 250gb barracuda. how should i go about partitioning it for windows, installs, music, movies, etc?

Either that or use something like partition magic, you can create, resize and merge partitions with it.

With that much use the 74GB for your OS and serciurty ainti-virus and stuff.

then the 250GB just leave as is and make folders for stuff, they dont really "need" to be partitioned more of a hassle then any thing in your case, IMO.

I am against you guys in here. Partitioning is very important. Think about it, when your windows shuts down improperly, it is going to scan disk a whole partition of 74 GB or a whole partition of 250GB ?? This will take a huge amount of time.

Also when you are considering defragment of your drives, you will spend a lot of time waiting for your 250 GB partition to get defraged. I assume that you use any program like partition magic, or even the windows XP computer management tool from the administrative tools to partition your new hard disks.

I also recommend partitioning. You should have split the 80GB hd to two partitions, and the larger one to three or four partitions. This way it'll be tons of easier to organize everything.

I would use the 74gb for the os and any games you have, use the other for all other data, music, videos, ect. I see no reason to partition them (Just make seperate folders)

would u even recromend getting a 10-20 gig hdd for sumtin like that?? and if so what other junk would i put on that small drive

Why would you want to partition them?! Use the Raptor for windows and some installs, and the 250 large storage...
74GB on a main drive .... seems like an awful waste of space....

OS + security + antivirus << 74GB

Absolutely, nothing like coherence and organization :) Not to mention operations at the begginning of a partition block are faster than those not at the begginning (and much more so for the versy first partition)

Assuming you have the patience to let either of them run :P

i was thinking of partitioning the raptor for about 8-10 gigs of it for xp and the rest for installs, this sound good?
Depends how much installing you've got, ive set mine to 20GB and have ~10GB of install and a 10GB buffer for random stuff i throw on every other day in between formats
