partitions after windows 8 instalation

I want to instal windows 8 without formating on top of windows 7 that i already have on os partition . currently my drive is divided to OS partition and data partition. and my question is ... after installation of windows 8 on OS partition will i be able to access files from 'data' partition ? I really appreciate any help :)
 
Just a heads up that you can't install Windows 8 over Windows 7 and still have Windows 7 work. You'll need to shrink the OS partition to make a third partition for Windows 8.

Otherwise you can do an upgrade, which would keep all your files and applications the same.
