well, I seriously considered Core 2 duo, but when I ran the numbers the wife didn't approve of the cost. I don't want the base model processor, and they are still in the "new and really expensive" area. I didn't want a great processor but have to skimp on the rest to afford it, like a lesser video card or Less RAM(not that mines THAT great, but you get the idea)

that plus a case and some other tidbits, just under a grand with shipping

hmm. if i choose am2 i save 80 bucks for something else. lol
mayb i shud choose AM2, the speed difference isn't all that much, however, intel still beats am2.. aside from that i see no problems.

a grand US?
thats worth it!

my build is $1050 canadian w/o shipping and its not as good.:'(

for me it was the difference in being able to get a GS or a GT video card and, as well as 800mhz ram... The sad side is, I could care less what I get, as long as I can keep playing my games! I want to try BF2/and other new 1.7ghz+ recommended CPU games and my 1.3 p3 Tulatin just won't cut it, and has no where to go, so its OUT (though it will make a fine dedicated server!)

so as my wife says, its $1050(cost of game included) to play BF2!! most expensive game ever!

its not a dual core, its single core... about EE, I don't know, I'm 27 y/o married guy who just enjoys playing when I'm not working.. I played BFV for about 3 hours tonight. the hard part isn't finding time to play, the hard part is explaining to the 15 y/o who's been spanking your butt for 2 hours you have to go fix dinner. I'm leaving the x2 as a future upgrade once the price breaks some more, not to mention another 512x2 of ram. no sense going bankrupt for something that will be alot cheaper by the time games "need" it

That sounds like a solid mid-range computer you got there, and as you said, in the future you can upgrade to an X2 and a new video card easily.
