Upgrading my processor from my AMD Athlon x4 860k to either a i5 4690k or i7 4790k. Also I plan on buying a 128gb ssd.

Build so far:
GTX 760
8gb ddr3 1600 MHz
2TB hdd
500w power supply

My big question is if i am not overclocking my processor do I have enough power to run the computer with the ssd? I know i need a new motherboard also which is not a problem. Money is tight right now and there is also a $100 difference between the processors. I have a youtube channel and i also want to be able to stream which is why i am leaning towards the i7. Also the big game i play now is DayZ. I know the game is not optimized but do you think there will be a difference in gameplay between the i5 and i7?

The i7 is hyper threaded to 8 threads where as the i5 is only 4 threads. The majority of games use 4 cores so 4 threads. So really the i5 and i7 will have little differences in gaming. The i7 however will be much better at resource heavy tasks. Streaming isnt resource heavy so the i5 would be the better choice if you don't do things like editing, compressing, converting, or use other programs that would benefit over the i5.

I do edit but nothing crazy, The hardest part on my computer now for the editing is the rendering. I do not do animations just simply cut up the video, add a little bit of color corrector, music and my audio, sometimes subtitles. I have an old i3 crappy laptop that i could edit on fine for the most part. Also is 500w power enough?

500 watts is just enough but if you plan on upgrading video card then you would need something getter. However, it needs to be power supply from a good company, what is the make and model of your power supply?

That will be fine. You are using the minimum required for the gtx760 so if you upgrade your card, you'll need a 600 watt power supply.

Sweet thanks, I just have to ask would it matter if I got the i7 or i5 and the ssd for the power supply? i.e. take more power? I am new to all of this stuff and and dont want to walk into the store and pay then realize i need more money :P

I say stick with the I5, get the ssd. As long as you are running the standard hardware then you are fine. If you were getting led lights and other accessories, then maybe you would want a higher wattage power supply.

You realize that streaming does these things, right? ;)

Thanks for the help man, My computer actually has 2 led lights in it but i will just have the people unhook them or something.

I'm talking about the led tube lights that you can string throughout your case. Basically I call them bells and whistels. If all you have is the standard hardware then you are fine. A couple led fans won't hurt anything.

Oh alright, I have one big red one in the back so i can see through to my parts and a medium green one in the front :P I am thinking i might as well get the 600w while i am at it. Pretty much building a new computer now after the crap Ironside sold me a month ago haha.

Yep, best bang for your buck is always building it yourself to where you choose the parts you want.
