Hi,
I recently downloaded a file from the internet and it is a .rar file.
It is password protected.
Does anyone know of a freeware program that can crack .rar file passwords?
Also how about cracking other compression files like 7zip, .zip, izarc, etc.

Winzip is freeware if you download the trial. Eventually it will start asking you to buy the full version, but just press cancel and it lets you keep using it.
 
I dont think hes trying to crack anything, sounds like he just needs to unzip a file which is legal. Im guessing hes mistaken a zipped file to be protected which they are not.

I think it is password protected...
 
yeah hes saying the RAR is password protected and needs to know how to crack the password. Not how to crack the serial for winrar itself.

Hi,
I use 7zip & IZArc as my compression tools - both Freeware and both are far better that Winzip & Winrar.

I am simply trying to open a legal password protected file I downloaded.
 
1. This IS illegal. I would paste the link to admins, dunno.
2. Why illegal? because everythng that is password protected is illegal, or is made to be used by a person who knows the password,
3. Win Rar can't crack the password, I know where it is, but I will not help.

Oh, edit, it would help if we know what file did you download. xD
 
I've uploaded things to the net that are password protected - personal 'movies' etc for viewing pleasure of friends, there's nothing illegal about that. Everyone's so self righteous these days, can't seem to give anyone the benefit of the doubt and it'll screw up the world eventually.
