is there a way to protect a folder with a password using windows xp without using a software???

you use winzip, or winrar or some program like that, and there's a password option.

Add the file to WinZip and then press the button "encrypt" and just put in the password.

i think you can (if you have winzip) just right click the zipped folder and choose to encrypt or password protect. you might have to go right-click->properties though.
