password protecting folders?

i've been searching all day, with no luck, to find a way for a friend of mine to password protect her files and folders.
i know that there is software out there such as truecrypt, that works great. but it's a bit of a hassle for the lesser important files.

i'm looking for a way for her to password protect her files/folders on her data partition without much hassel.
is there anything out there that will do this and give you the ability to enter the password when you double-click on the file/folder rather then have to go through the program itself to unlock it?

preferably free, but a somewhat cheap program would be fine too.

I'm not sure if there's a way to directly password protect a folder, but what you can do is use winrar and create an archive from the folder with minimal compression and a password.

edit: right click folder > properties > advanced > encrypt content

There is this program called Folder Guard. i think its free. I used to use it 2 months ago . It does the job:). Im sure its available on torrent if you want the full version.

Hope this helps

i will suggest u go for true crypt. Its free and easy as well. u might have initial difficulty in setting it up for the first time, but its tutorial is quite helpful.
It will create a virtual encrypted drive in which any private file can be stored.

i used folder lock for password protection, great gui, and easy to use ..... and it did great....
but its a paid software
