I was wondering if you could password protect a website? I want to set up a website for family and friends but dont want it to be available to the public...is this possible? I want it so when you type in the website address the home page has a log in space where you type in a password and then you can access the site. And if you can do this would you be able to do it on one of those free website builders like geocities?

Your best bet would be to find some "site in a box" type setup such as a forum or gallery that has an intergrated password system. You know, something similar to what is used here. There are other methods of password protecting a site, but usually you need to do things on the server end.
