Passworded laptop

My aunt has a laptop, I was trying to fix it for her, but I can't get on. When I power it on, it goes through the POST, then this black screen comes up with a white box saying please enter your password. This is not the BIOS, nor the noormal logon, i have no idea what it is. The computer is a Dell, from '96 or '97. Other than that I have no specs, 'cause i don't kave it with me right now

No (it ain't her password, she never uses it) , I want to know some way to clear it. I would clear the BIOS, but I have no idea how, I couldn't even get to the mobo in the laptop, to much crap jammed into too little space:eek:

1. If possible, talk to the person who set it up and have the right to access it, after all someone set it up to keep you and other people out.

2. If not, reformat the disk.

I want to know some way to clear it.

your aunt added a password? lol

my soln, just reformat the disk and reinstall.

and blame dell.

I have absolutely no idea wtf i am talking about! That's why I asked you guys:P

Like I said, it is right after the post, b4 the OS loads.

How would I reformat it? There is no floppy drive, and I don't have a USB floppy. Even if I did, I doubt that it would work
 
Looks like you're gonna have to pop the case and tear into that sucker. Take out that CMOS battery, and pop it back in. Excellent. :D

That's the problem! I took out every external screw that I could find, and I can't even see the mobo!:eek:

well, it ain't HP, but that sorta helped. It is a Dell Latitude xxxxxx
 
This is a BIOS password generator for Dell Latitudes from the Service Tag number. program is available at http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~skynet/zips/latitude.exe.

Im not sure if it works are not your service tag no hould be on the bottom on a label and should also be displayed in the bios . any how you have to run his from dos

c:>latitude.exe followed by your service tag no and then hit enter
