Pavillion 22bw issues

I bought a new computer at Christmas form a chain store. It is an HP Pavillion with a Pavillion 22 bw monitor. I cannot get the thing to work correctly. I have downloaded all new drivers and all recommended updated software. What happens is this: upon going into sleep mode when trying to wake it it will show my start up desktop with task bar icon's but no desktop icon's. the task bar icon's will highlight but will only stay small and won't come out to full size. To make it work again I have to restart the computer then everything is fine till sleep mode again. I have turned power choices up to max. with no luck either. Thanks. Also when first coming on from sleep the monitor says no DVI connection which it is not the cable since it works fine as long as it doesn't go to sleep.
 
Then change the settings so that it doesn't sleep, and don't select sleep mode. I never use sleep mode, mind you my computer loads windows in 35 seconds.

Yes this is what I finally did last night. The thing is shouldn't things work correctly from the factory? I tried everything to make it work as HP troubleshooting says with no results. Thanks anyway.
 
There are a lot of issues with machines coming out of sleep mode. Best thing to do would be to update all drivers first. If still happening, don't use sleep mode.
