paying full price for a phone *warning, math included

i need to buy the samsung exclaim, but don't qualify for the sprint discount. i figure if i own it for at least 2 years, it'll even itself out. what you think?

1) my current phone's battery kicked the bucket. so i really 'need' a new phone and i want teh exclaim.

2) i only have the basic plan from sprint which includes 200min and i added 500 txt for a total of $35/mo. they want me to upgrade to at least $40 plan to get a discount on the phone.

3) i don't subscribe or use any of teh social medial stuff to justify getting a data plan. and if i did, i would rather use a computer with a proper browser.

so, i can pay $300 for a new phone and use it for 2yrs; which is no problem as i've had my current phone for almost 7yrs and am only getting a new one because of teh battey :(

or i can upgrade to the next plan up for extra $15 mo + whatever increase in taxes and fees and save $150 on the phone. oh, and i'll have to keep that plan for at least 2 yrs.

so $15 * 24mo = $360

man, i'll just pay retail for the stupid phone, it just doesn't make sense to spend all that money for a phone with a keyboard :eek:

i never got into the whole ebay thing, i find it too risky and annoying.

besides, i'll need to get it pronto since i'm currently out of a phone, if i didn't have class right now, i'll be at teh store.

apparently the sprint online store is cheaper, but i'll still have to wait for delivery.

man this sucks :(

Buying from Ebay is practically no different then a store if you know what you're doing. Especially with the type of auction linked above (BIT, 1500 + feedback at 100%...).

hmmm, tempting; however, i don't have a ebay account, do i need one?

also, i was going to pay with CC as i haven't sent my tax forms yet, so i don't have teh cash on hand, but will in a few weeks. does ebay take discover? LOL :D

do they have the white ones on ebay? all i see is blues and reds.
 
You've had the phone for 7 years and they wont give you the upgrade price? I'd tell them to go **** themselves and cancel my contract.
 
You should get the upgrade price....heck, as of now new contract with sprint gets an upgrade price every year vs every two years.

i just looked at my record, and my original contract expired in '07, so i've had it for 5 yrs (still feels like a long time). neways, i've been on a monthly basis with them.

i've thought about going to at&t, but their plan's start at $40 and another 5 for txt. Sprint has the cheaper plan so i actually save money by staying with them; at least until they get rid of the basic plan.

if i really needed more minutes or txt msgs, i would upgrade my plan. but in the long run, i would be paying more.

(price of new plan - current plan) * 2yrs = at least $360

i could just pay retail for the phone and still come out on top after two years. it really sucks that they won't even give me a 'loyalty' discount.

Could think about going for a better phone that comes out cheaper with a contract perhaps?

i went to teh store to buy teh new phone and they told me that i was eligible for a discount! w00t!

ended up paying 100 bux, so i'm very happy :good:

Nice my mom has the same phone and my grandma has one in pink. They are pretty good phones. I had the palm pre but it couldn't swim:D so I had to get a new one and I went with the new LG lotus elite which is a nice phone. I have had a sprint phone for 6 years now. There phones might be a little more expensive then other carriers but they have the best plans especially there family plans.
