I currently have 2x 512mg sticks of Kingston PC2700 (333mhz)
Im looking to upgrade to 2x 512mg sticks of kingston PC3200(400mhz) and put the PC2700 in my folks computer, Would Buying the PC3200 be worth it and increase performance noticeably?. I can get it for AU$150.
Cheers

i had pc3200 on my barton system that was running a 333MHz bus, i didn't notice any performance increase while using it at 333mhz or 400mhz, the only advantage is that it will let you overclock further before your memory becomes an issue

There is only a very slight performance increase, i as well had my 1gb of memory runnin at ddr333 in my sempron system, then got ddr400 and only noticed a slight difference.

PC3200 is so cheap, I'd jsut go for it. If you need the money for something else though, stickin wih PC2700 won't kill you.

My understanding is that having RAM faster than your FSB will not increase performance, as the RAM will have to wait for the next instruction to come from the FSB. If you are looking to overclock, it's a different matter, as you will be increasing the speed of your FSB. I also wouldn't go above 1GB - it's overkill for that system and probably won't improve your performance. I would probably go for the PC 3200 anyway though, as for the few extra dollars you can still use the RAM without any performance hit if you upgrade to a new system with a faster FSB.

Hit memory will run at pc2700 speed guy, which is 333 not 400. if he overlcocks itll be easier to hit higher marks because the memory is rated to do 400, and can go up some from there. noooooobbbssss
