Hi guys,
Basically I just got a new PC and hooked it up to my lan so that I could transfer my files across from my old computer. About a third of the way the old PC restarted and failed to boot (typical that it would fail during a backup right?). I then booted into my XP disk and got into recovery mode. Strangely it never asked to logon to a windows installation (and LOGON didn't do anything) and instead took me straight to C://. I tried to run bootcfg /r and chkdsk etc which did nothing so I decided to try and plug the old HDD into the new PC to see if I can backup the files manually. Unfortunately once plugged in my new PC didn't even recognise that anything was there (checked device manager and disk management). I also checked the bios which didn't find anything plugged into that port. I've now tried it on two different PC's with the same result. I'm going to try to run some of the diagnostic tools on UBCD but I'm not too hopeful.
The HD is a IDE Western Digital WD800 80gb disk.
Anyway any ideas or suggestions (or even confirmation that the disk is finally dead) would be really appreciated!
