So im planning on getting a new computer, problem is im not the best at picking what parts to put on it. I need a computer that will be able to run alot of different programs at once, also manage heavy internet usage. I'll be editing videos and running photoshop on it. So i will need quite a bit of memory. my brother also would like to use it for gaming so anything that could help please insist, i will be building it off you guys advice. Im not on a budget but i dont want to spend to much on it. No more than 1.4k please. Thank you!

$1.4k or £1.4k?

if you want it mainly for video editing you will want something that can handle the processing such as an i7 six core and atleast 16gb of memory, depending on what games your brother wants to play you can get a decent gpu such as an r9 280 or better. id reccomend atleast a 120gb SSD and 1-2TB HDD (seagate or wd)

if i can do ill put some kind of parts list up later. you can cut the cost down with a quad core such as an i7 4770k and still get good performance as a good 6 core is around £440 and 4770k is around £240. depending if you want to keep costs down a little.

ninjabubbles is a good list but like i say if your brother wants it for minecraft then theres no need for a 980 or 970 a r9 270,280 would be more than sufficient. and you could get away with a lower wattage psu also.

$1.4k, moslty WoW is what he wants to play. And i like those specs. Im modtly interested in getting a good build that will last me a good while. Im rally guided towards that first build in that link

heres my list, you want it mainly for processing power so you want a i7 if you can. the difference in games between an i7 and i5 equivalent is maybe 5% but its much more than this using its full power while editing, compressing etc. 20-30% more efficient.

ive put a 128gb SSD in there and gtx 970. you can however to save money take the SSD off and replace the 970 for something like a r9 270/280x. if your brother is playing WOW it doesnt take much graphics power as my old laptop with nvidia ddr3 2gb graphics could play it on ultra.

the 128gb SSD will however give you faster transfer speeds, boot times etc for windows and other files. Ive also put 2x8gb RAM in there should you need to add any more in the future. you can also go for a cheaper motherboard to save maybe $20 but that is a very good board.

ive left a space for the case as you should pick it to go with your taste. Also think about getting a good cpu cooler such as coolermaster hyper 212 as it will give you more room for overclocks.

as for a case any good ATX sized case will do such as corsair, bitfenix etc.
