PC connection to HDTV

I have my PS3 plugged up to my HDTV via HDMI and thought I might aswell use my PC on it aswell, right here comes the problem: -

I want the sound for PC and PS3 to come out the PC speakers, and seeing as I only have one HDMI port (being used for PS3) I could connect the PC using a component cable but would that for instance DVI from graphics card to component on TV produce good HD quality up to something like 1080i?

Then for the sound I could just get a 2mm to red and white and use the remaining two ports on the component for the audio.

But anyway main question will a DVI to component cable produce high quality video.

A DVI to component cable would not be able to produce 1080i which has a resolution, off the top of my head of 1920x1080, but from a distance you will not be able to notice the difference for TV, but since you want to connect your PC up to the screen then you will notice it when you read texts and the like. Does your HDTV have a VGA port or even a DVI port? Most HDTVs that I have seen have the lot, they have a HDMI and VGA port as well as at least one DVI port. Check the back of your television and if you find either a VGA or DVI port, then its better to use them instead of component cables.

Yeah the TV has a VGA port on the back but im wondering if I use that how will I get sound from both devices coming out of my PC speakers. Anyone know a setup that would enable that?
