PC Control pad

Hi all, been looking for a control pad for the pc as my current one is a crappy old £10 one with dodgy buttons, are there any good pc controllers or would you just get the wired x box 360 one?
 
A wireless PC Xbox controller would probably be the best option, but Logitech manufactuers a few good alternatives. Also, you could buy a USB to Gamecube/PS2 controller adapter on Amazon or eBay.

Hmm, that would take some getting used to but for first person shooters I have heard that is the best, so far the games I have used the pc for are one's like Civ 4, Sim City, Sims and Broken Sword so not something that really requires a good controller, the controller I have used mainly for emulated snes games, I was looking in particular for a new RPG as the poor attempts I have played lately have put me off, I was looking at Dragon age as it seemed to have good reviews, seen it cheaper on the PC and then thought about the crap controller, can that setup be used for most games? as I noticed Phantasy Star online for me was virtually impossible using keyboard

Just looked at a logitech controller and while the reviews were good, it looked tacky and uncomfortable to me, but I have not held it myself so not sure, also there were issue's such as no low battery indicator and sometimes glitchy, it was the f710 I was looking at, the 360 controller so far seems to be generally accepted as the better controller apart from a lack of programmable key options so I think I am being swayed towards the 360 controller
 
Thanks for all the replies, I have just ordered a wired 360 controller, I chose that over a wireless adapter as I only have on wireless 360 controller so it will be handy as I want Tekken for the 360 so now multiplayer on that will also be possible
