PC freezes when I connect my iPod Video

Hi, I want to put music from my iPod on a pretty old PC. But when I connect the iPod it first says the device could work faster on a USB 2.0 port, and then all programs freezes. I can still select everything, but when I open a folder, i.e. My Computer, I get a white screen.

After about 5 minutes the computer suddenly responds, and everything I clicked suddenly opens. The same happens when I disconnect the iPod while my PC is freezing.

After wating 5 minutes for the computer to respond, the iPod works just fine.

But it's pretty annoying, cause I have to put music on the PC regurarly, and we're going to use it as a Music player for 2 weeks.

Is this a common problem, and is there any solution?

The iPod is a 5th generation iPod Video 30GB. The iPod works fine, and is ready filetransfer in no time on my faster PC, and Windows doesn't hang on that PC either.

The older PC has an AMD Duron 700Mhz processor, 768MB RAM, a 32MB Nvidia TNT videocard and USB 1.1.

Oh, and almost every Windows service is disabled on the PC, don't know if that matters... I first thought starting the "Removable Storage Service" would solve the problem, but it makes no difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

usb 2 is faster than usb 1 so the transfer of music to and from your ipod will take longer that might explain the hang expecially if you have thousands of songs on the ipod ,you can buy a usb 2 pci card that would speed things up,
other than that just be patient.

But once the computer responds again, everything works just fine, I can close and open the iPod folder without any problems, and it only loads for 1 second to open the folder with the 4000 music files in it. So I don't think the files on the iPod make any difference.

I just figured out that if I end and restart the explorer.exe process, the computer stops freezing and works fine again. But starting the process takes about 1 minute, so it's still a bit annoying.

But it's at least a lot less irritating then before.

What do you expect? even with USB 2.1 you'll still experiance lag.
