PC infected with Virus?

Hi,
my PC suddenly responded with typing endlessly (I am using wireless keyboard). As a result, I could not type anything from the keyboard. I use my AVG anti-virus software free edition as well as ad-aware spyware to scan for viruses a few times but result shown PC not infected with virus... Problem still persists, i.e. the keyboard is typing on its own endlessly..

I changed my wireless keyboard to a wired keyboard and the problem subside.

May I know how do I retify the problem, i.e.
1. is my PC infected with virus?
2. is the free edition anti-virus software not good enough to scan for virus although I have constantly update it.
3. How do I resolved the endless keying of keyboard problem?

Thank you.

Well you said that the endless typing subsided when you removed your wireless keyboard and placed a wired one into the PC right? Indicates to me that your wireless keyboard is playing up due to a fault with the keyboard itself.

As for your anti virus software. As with anything free, your only going to get so much protection as opposed to having a paid for piece of software. For example, I was running Avast free edition for a long time with no virus detections, moved onto NOD32 because I heard it was one of the best on the market and it picked up viruses Avast free stated I never had.

Hi rove,

Thanks for your advice.
Are you saying that my PC is not infected with virus? and the fault lies with the wireless keyboard?

Advice, please. ;)

Well, my initial advice is to test another keyboard. Be it another wired or wireless one. But if you have already tested one keyboard that was wired as opposed to the wireless keyboard in question and the wired one worked fine then I would look more towards your wireless keyboard / keyboard receiver to be the thing at fault.

Are you certain that the random typing doesn't occur at all while using the wired keyboard? Try the wired keyboard again and double check that it does stop. If it does, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that you have a virus. More a faulty wireless keyboard.

Although if you are that worried about having a virus you could always post a Hijack this log on here so we can have a look through it and see if anything looks out of the ordinary.

hi, Rove,

You are right. Once I changed to the wired keyboard, the problem stops.. that's why and how I can type all the messages.

To be on the safe side, do you think I should format my c drive and re-install OS again?

That's a very drastic option to do for such a small issue. I personally wouldn't bother and would just put it down to the keyboard being faulty. Why not test your wireless keyboard on a different computer and see if the other computer gets any random typing issues? Test it on a friends PC if you don't have a spare / 2nd one in your home. That way you'll know for sure if the keyboard is faulty.
