Whenever the computer starts playing any game my PC shuts down. I'll start a game and check the temp thinking that perhaps it's that, but the temps are fine, if I start playing it, POOF! it turns off as if someone pulled the cable out. When I try to turn it back up it won't turn on but when I unplug it and plug back in it boots right up. So I'm assuming something is up with my PSU.

Any ideas?

Is this usually indicative of a bad PSU? It is old. it's a PC Power and Cooling from a PIII 867 macine so it does have a lot of years on it but it was a champ when I needed it. Sorry to forgot to include that little factoid.

Just to be sure. What game is it that you are trying to play? Ive heard peoples computers shutting down randomly wehen there playing a game.

It certainly does sound like your PSU. Older systems typically drew most of their power from the +5V rail, whereas newer systems draw primarily from the +12V rail. As a result, older PSUs, designed for lower +12V output, can quite easily be underpowering a system, even if they are a good quality unit with a high wattage rating.

Your system specs and info about the PSU (in particular the amperage on the +12V line) would be helpful in determing whether the PSU is underpowering your sytem, and for recommending a replacement.
