PC/Laptop to TV help

Hi can anyone help me out. I thought I was a bit of a computer/tech geek, however I cannot find out what cable and or program I need in order to watch a film thats playing on my laptop on my tv. I often watch films streamed online but it would be much more enjoyable to sit on the sofa and watch the film on tv. Any help and advice as usual will be very much appreciated.

PC 1, i think your reply was a complete waste of time my laptop is not the problem, you do not even know what proccessor I have, please stop wasting mine and every other member of computer forum's time. I simply wanted to know what cable is needed an/or if I need any software to watch films from my laptop on my tv.

What brand. Do you have a connection on it that is a rectangle that has 3 small holes down and 8 across and have a cross on the right side. If so It's a DVI. Then look at your television. If you have a composite cable (You might stick a video camera connection or maybe an x-box or a wii connection on it. Then get a DVI to composite connection from a store and boom.
