PC not turning on after CPU upgrade

I have an old dell with an intel single core 1.5GHz. I just upgraded to a single core 3.0GHz.

The problem is that after the upgrade, my PC will not turn on. When I press the power button, instead of turning green, it just stays like an orange color.
Nothing boots and I do not get a video signal either.

What is the deal?:(:confused::mad:

When I used to get that on my old Dell it kinda signalled that the motherboard was dead. one thing that did help sometimes was unplugging all of the power from the board and plugging it back in again...

Reset your BIOS, it probably still has the settings from your old CPU stored in there.

Remove the CMOS battery on your motherboard for about 20 minutes and un-plug the computer.

Dells motherboards tend to only support a small range of CPUs on them. So if you have a 1.5Ghz chip the board likely doesn't support anything higher then a 1.7Ghz at best. They do this so you have to buy a new PC instead of upgrading.

little orange light can mean a dead cpu. its happend to me before.
wat dell do you have and what cpu did you get?

I should have reset the BIOS. I did not think about pulling the battery out.

I know the motherboard is good because I put the old (1.5GHz) CPU in and it booted just fine.

You got a point there Lawson!

Anyways, I sent the CPU back to NEWEGG.COM already. It was not like I had a choice in CPU's because NEWEGG.COM only sold one kind of socket 478 CPU.

It really comes down to I'm trying to make old shit run faster.
