Speedfan is rather unreliable, try using HWMonitor.

Windows 7 is also new. have you tried runnign windows update? there are already a heap of updates for win 7.

Open the Task Manager with ctrl+shift+esc and go to the "Processes" tab. See what processes might be excessively using the cpu. List for us what processes are using more then "00" percent of the cpu. The "System Idle Process" should say like 98-99 but tell us the others.

Also try a free program called DKHardDrive-Light. Its a program that monitors hard drive activity and shows what files are being modified/written/deleted. Let your computer sit idle for a few minutes and if you have no large programs open and you see constant disk activity in the DKHardDrive program then see if you can see what files or groups of files are being shown and if they relate to some program.

After my computer has been idle for a little while the temp on my E8400 overclocked to 3.6ghz gets down to about 38C, and playing heavy games it can get up to high 50's. Right now with just Firefox open I'm running at 42C.
