PC power consumption?

how do you know how much power your computer is consuming? by the number of watts on the power supply?

so a 400watt psu is equivalent to using 4 100watt light bulbs?

Components will only draw as much power as they need. Having a 500W PSU, for example, will not cause your power bill to be any higher than having a 400W.

There's no easy way to tell your total power draw. A program like the Extreme PSU calculator can help, but really only give you a ballpark figure. A quality hardware metre can give you more accurate results, but naturally isn't free.

If it's a question of whether a particular PSU will power your system, keep in mind that there's a lot more than wattage to a PSU. The amperage on the +12V rail is of key importance.

mine uses 480, I have 500. damn close!
isnt watts the supply and volts the usage of electricity? can some1 explain pls?
