Hey everyone I wanted to play a dirty little trick on a friend at work but I can't seem to make a decent error.

Example I am shooting for a exact microsoft error look
System_Recovered_Serious_Error.jpg

I will put it in his start up folder the issue I have is how to make the actual file.

I know the common
X = MsgBox("Text Here",0+64,"Error Name Here")
but how do you make one like microsofts? He has a ton of programs/etc that he LOVES on his HD so I figure id go for a hard drive failure message to freak him out.

Perhaps a good site I could read up on and make it myself would be great. If all else how would I add a space to move say text down without getting a error? /nul didn't work.

looks like ya already got it.
print screen then save.
crop the error.

He wants to create an actual error, not a photo. If you try to open the photo at start up it will just launch a photo viewing program and I doubt he would fall for that.

not quite what I am looking for. I want a actual error not a picture to boot up he wouldn't fall for something as simple as that.

This will be a real error but its fake. Starts up when he boots up.

Where it says "click here" I want to send him to Microsoft's Website
I know some commands but not enough to make the entire error. Also I dunno how I would make "bold" letters in the vbs file.

The issue I have atm is making a click able link to lead to Microsoft's website.

Ok......interesting. I don't know. For most people and croping like i said then posting on a blue backround i would think would work for most people. Like the concept though. Lets see who replys and how to make this happen. That would be my question.

Another one i recall i did at work.
A gentleman had a computer and i turned off the auto arrange of the icons.
moved the icons around then hit print screen button and saved as wallpaper.
do this 3 or 4 times rearranging the desktop icons or make lots of duplicates.
use as wallpaper leaving the orginal icons intact. this also works well if it doesn't get ya asss whipin.
heehe.........

bottom line.
he only needs to change the wallpaper to get everything back to normal.
His orginal wallpaper will still be in the backround. i promise he will pull his hair out.
promise.

Hide unused icons.

Right click > Properties > Customise > Advanced and then select whatever the icon is to always hide

I didnt have the exact dimensions, but I made my own little error. I think I did pretty well in C# :D.

(Right click save as).

EDIT: Clicking format is the only way to close the program, btw, it does NOT actually format your computer XD.

Man, i used to have a BSOD screen saver, but it was hard to fool people because halfway through is said "I F***** your mom" or something random like that.

Haha that's really good. I wonder if you could make the computer shut down after it? Or would that just be too much. Also, make the bars go a lot slower

Sure thing. I havnt had a chance to test it out, so I dont know if it works. Be careful either way, the only way to stop it from shutting down your pc is to ctrl-alt-del and end the process.

That's so funny! too bad it's an .exe and kaspersky 2009 says "error.exe placed in group low restricted"

I have done similar things to this before only I had access to my friends computer before he came in so I was able to simple do some print screens and have it setup in Powerpoint.

To really scare your friends if you have acsess to their computer before, do this:
1.go to command prompt
2.type "cd"
3.press alt+enter so it's full screen
4.type "dir /s" and power down the monitor.

When your friend will power it up, he will have a surprise ;)

EDIT: doesnt work for me anymore, but it worked before...
