i've just set up a new computer, and i've encountered a problem that i have never come across before. i powered on the computer, and what the pc was inicializing the POST, it beeped 4 times and then shutdown on it's own. not even the screen came on..

can anyone help!? and maybe share his ideas of the cause of the problem?!

thanks

Was it a complete system bought or a custom build you assembled. There are
different codes for boards with bioses made by Award, Phoenix, AM, and a list of other manufacturers. One immediate thought is the memory installed. If the
memory is bad and needs replacement or needs to be reseated. Are the beeps heard all quick short beeps or is one long and one short? A few links are added here to review.

it's a custom built pc, i assembled everything from scratch. the mainboard is an "ABIT AA8 3r eye". it could be the RAM, but i'm doubtfull about that, it could probably be the CPU, PSU, or even the motherboard, and the 4 beeps i heard were short ones.

thanks

how much memory do you have in it the abit mobo you mention will support 2 or 4 sticks not 1 or 3 sticks if you have 3 sticks take one out then try to boot if you have one stick you will need to buy another stick

that mainboard has 4 slots. i have 1GB of ram consisting of two 512MB ram modules. i did consider what you have just said, but hopefully thats not the problem.

thanks!

have you got the ram in the first two slots if not try that i had the same mobo and the four beeps were the ram because i had 3 sticks when i bought a 4th stick everything was dine

ic...well i have two sticks. the thing is with this mainboard that when using two identical ram sticks, you have to connect then with the same colour. the slots on the mainboard are coloured in Oringe and Green. the two sticks have to be connected to the slots that are either green or oringe. they wont work if you connect one stick to an orange slot, and the other to a green slot.

yes put them in the same colore slots the ones closest to the cpu and let me know if that worked

the ram slots are in the right place....and i managed to solve the problem. you know that there are two power connections connected from the PSU to the motherboard which are the main power and the AUX1 for the mainboard. well, i had the AUX disconnected slightly and i didn't notice.....thats one hell of a ****up. i cant believe that i didn't notice.

thats why the motherboard was making 4 beeps, bacause it's recognised as a mainboard problems by the POST at startup.

Thanks for the help all!!
